Senior Accountant

Job Description

The Senior Accountant role represents a unique opportunity for a professional in the early stages of their career to gain exposure to a broad range of accounting and finance topics including; General Ledger Accounting, Internal & External Financial Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Treasury and Cash Management, A/R, A/P and Payroll. This position is located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day responsibility for the general ledger including:
    • Opening and closing accounting periods within the system
    • Proposing and recording general ledger journal entries
    • Completing monthly account reconciliations
  • Assist in managing the monthly close process to a published timeline
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly internal and external reporting packages, including financial statements
  • Support the year-end audit process by working closely with the external auditors, preparing requested audit materials and responding to audit inquiries
  • Assist in drafting annual financial statements and footnotes
  • Maintain the Company’s fixed asset records
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes as well as help evaluate budget to actual variances
  • Participate in cross-training activities and serve as a back-up for the following functions:
    • Daily cash management
    • A/R processing
    • A/P processing
    • Payroll processing

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of two years of practical experience in financial accounting
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills
  • Commitment to “internal client” and customer service principles
  • Willingness to take initiative and the ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail and the ability to organize information neatly and accurately
  • Ability to recognize and maintain the confidentiality of work materials and issues
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting
  • Five years of practical experience in financial accounting
  • Public accounting experience
  • CPA Certification
  • Relevant experience with modern ERP systems; experience with NetSuite

General Working Hours and Conditions

Normal business hours are generally 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.  However, this position will periodically require work to be performed outside of normal business hours in order to meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
